Radcliffe Jewelers, part of the recently formed The 1916 Company, has opened a 26,000 square foot showroom in its home city of Baltimore.
The 1916 Company was created in 2023 with the merger of WatchBox with Govberg, Radcliffe and Hyde Park Jewelers.
Most of the company’s facias are changing to 1916, but the Radcliffe Jewelers name has been kept because of the company’s deep community roots in its home city since the early 1980s.
At 26,000 square feet in a freestanding building on Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, the showroom is one of the largest watch and jewelry showrooms in the United States, and occupies a plot previously occupied by a Barnes & Noble store and a branch of PNC Bank.
The store has a Rolex showroom, private VIP lounge and on-site Rolex-accredited watchmaking workshop.
Tudor and Cartier have their own shop-in-shops while Breguet, Breitling, Grand Seiko, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega, Panerai and TAG Heuer have perimeter positions.
There is also a substantial ‘watch bar’ for pre-owned watches including a large Rolex Certified Pre-Owned collection.
Jewelry is equally important at Radcliffe, and the showroom has space for Chanel Fine Jewelry & Watches, David Yurman, Mikimoto, Buccellati, Elizabeth Locke, Fernando Jorge, Pomellato, Roberto Coin, Temple St. Clair, Vhernier, and more.
The showroom was designed Eric Lewis of Baltimore’s E/Line Architecture with a focus on fusing retail with hospitality in a number of intimate lounges, bars, a concierge-style service area and ample event space.
It has a neutral palette using natural and organic materials including marbles, mosaics, textured wall coverings and green living walls that are picked up in a tree motif symbolizing growth and connection, the company says.
John Shmerler, Global CEO of The 1916 Company, says he is thrilled to show off his new home in Baltimore. “Our team is committed to excellence and creating personalized experiences for everyone who walks through our doors – in Baltimore and around the world,” he promises.
