Vintage Blancpain, Omega and Rolex watches to invest in today

Joshua Ganjei, CEO of pre-owned specialist European Watch Company, gives his tips on why collectors and investors are looking to the past.

Vintage watches in general are a great investment right now.

The attention of most buyers is currently focused elsewhere and quality vintage pieces are listing for a fraction of what they were selling for just 5 or 6 years ago.

It’s still a tricky market that requires a lot of diligence, but if you’re knowledgeable and ready to do the work, vintage watches can be a great investment.

Blancpain Vintage Fifty Fathoms Aqualung 1000FT “Jacques Cousteau”

Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms model was one of the first dive watches ever produced making it a truly historic piece that deserves a place in every vintage collectors watch box.

This particular example is the Aqua Lung variant that was worn by famed French underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau and his team of aquanauts.

It features a stainless steel case that is in excellent condition, a black dial with radium lume, and a gorgeous original bakelite bezel that is in outstanding condition.

This is a vintage dive watch with some serious bona fides.

Omega Vintage 2914 Railmaster PAF Military Provenance Circa 1960

A little more than 5 years ago, vintage Omega Railmasters were selling for more than double what they are listing for now, and that was for pieces that didn’t come with the verified military provenance of this one!

This ref. 2914 comes with an extract from the Omega archive confirming that the watch was delivered new to the Pakistani Air Force in July of 1960.

It features a caseback and manual-wind caliber 285 movement that are both engraved with the “P.A.F.” signature and is in excellent overall condition.

Vintage pieces are really all about the life they have lived and the stories that they tell, and this one has both in spades!

Rolex Submariner 5512 Gilt PCG Chapter Ring

Vintage watches are all about the tiniest of details, and no group of collectors take these details more seriously or are more knowledgeable about them than vintage Rolex collectors.

This ref. 5512 Rolex Submariner has pretty much every single one of the features that vintage Sub collectors look for all in one incredible package.

Its case features Pointed Crown Guards (or PCG’s for those in the know…) and it has a glossy black dial with gorgeous gilt printing, a chapter ring, AND an “Exclamation Point” at 6 o’clock.

It also has a period correct stainless steel rivet Oyster bracelet and its original bezel with a super fat font “Kissing 4” insert with a tritium pearl at 12.

Like I said, it’s all about the details and this one has them all.
