An “exhilarating fusion” is how TAG Heuer describes its latest addition to the 60th anniversary line up of Carrera chronographs.
The watch combines the design skills of Team Ikuzawa and customizer Bamford Watch Department with the historic form of the Carrera and TAG Heuer’s association with motor racing in general and Porsche in particular.
Team Ikuzawa may need an introduction to watch collecting circles.
The London-based creative agency is run by Mai Ikuzawa, daughter of Tetsu Ikuzawa, who was a big name in Porsche motor racing during the 1960s and 70s in his native Japan.
After retiring from racing, he became a team principle while emerging over more recent decades as one of the world’s most admired collectors of Porsche cars and motoring memorabilia.
Along the way, he became something of a fashion and style icon in his own right, a passion that his daughter has clearly inherited.
The exhilarating fusion has spawned a rather cumbersome name, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa by Bamford, but a highly original design in the Japanese flag’s bright white and red colors, which are a signature of Team Ikuzawa, and the allure of a limited edition chronograph with a double-signed dial.
The white opaline dial is the star of this 42mm timekeeper with a white minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock and a red hour counter at 9 o’clock.
These counters have white and red lacquered hands, as do the central hours and minutes hands the watch.
Team Ikuzawa’s logo is boldly displayed below the centre of the dial and above a small date window.
The date and TAG Heuer’s logo are picked out in the same red color.
The watch is powered by TAG Heuer’s manufacture Heuer 02 automatic movement.
It is worn on a vecro Team Ikuzawa-branded strap and is on sale from today for CHF 6,250.
