Schwarz Etienne tries titanium for 1902 watch debut

Independent Swiss watchmaker says it has an eye on the future with a switch to titanium for a new line of classical timepieces.

Schwarz Etienne is channelling over 120 years of watchmaking expertise into a brand new family of watches, the 1902 collection, which showcase the Swiss atelier’s dedication to craftsmanship and in house manufacturing of classic, balanced timekeepers with  fluid, ergonomic lines.

The first additions to the 1902 collection are a trio of small seconds models with silver, slate grey or gold dials, each with a grain-textured center and a softer opaline finish for the outer hour ring.

The small seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock has a classic tight spiral pattern.

Every tiny detail has been taken as an opportunity for Schwarz Etienne’s watchmakers to demonstrate their finishing skills, including Lancine-style hands with contrasting polished and sandblasted facets and delicately curved applied hour markers.

Pursuit of perfection continues with the finishing of the ASE 300.00 automatic micro-rotor movement, which has six bridges decorated with seemingly continuous concentric circles of Côtes de Genève stripes.

The 3Hz stop seconds movement has a power reserve of 86 hours.

Despite the dress watch level of detail in the finishing, the watch is also modern and sporty thanks to the use of titanium for the 39mm x 10.9mm case, a first for Schwarz Etienne that it says is a step in a more modern direction.

Naturally, the water-resistant case is presented with perfectly executed polished and satin-brushed facets.
