When spit-balling ideas for the name of a new event space for entertainment and showcasing its latest watch lines, executives at Little Treasury Jewelers must have smiled when The Escapement was suggested.
There is genius in combining the name of the crucial widget that links a mechanical watch’s balance wheel to its gear train with a nod towards escaping the daily grind for a taste of luxury.
The Escapement opened last November as part of a wider refurbishment for Little Treasury Jewelers, which is based in Gambrills, Maryland.
It has several roles: event space, showroom and video studio; all a few steps from the main store in The Village at Waugh Chapel.
“We want The Escapement to be a place where people can find each other and relax,” says Little Treasury co-owner Steve Hammalian. “Being a gathering place for our community is what we have always done, and now the additional space can enable us to do that more often.”
Little Treasury has a broad and deep portfolio of watch brands, which are invited to host events in The Escapement.
Among over 20 brands, the retailer represents artisan independents including Alexander Shorokhoff, Muhle Glashutte and Speak Marin and more mainstream marques such as Grand Seiko, Zodiac and Breitling.
Face-to-face contact with customers is key to the expanding operation, but The Escapement is also home to a new video production studio to increase Little Treasury Jewelers’ online content, which already includes over 600 videos, shorts, and live streams.
