Geneva Watch Days auction aims to raise over $100,000 for watchmaker training

Charity auction organized by Geneva Watch Days and Phillips in association with Bacs & Russo.

Geneva Watch Days and Phillips in association with Bacs & Russo will hold a charity auction on the final Sunday of the event on September 1.

Phillips auctioneer Aurel Bacs will present a series of objects and experiences donated by partners of the growing Geneva watch show.

Lots include a ball and jersey signed by an NBA player, a hand-carved and polished pendant, miniature F1 helmets, a limited-edition Fender Stratocaster, and VIP tickets for a French football match.

Profits will go to a charity fund that supports the Geneva School of Watchmaking, providing support for apprentices in difficult financial situations.

“The labour market in our industry is tight today,” said Antoine Pin, President of the Geneva Watch Days Association. “Finding a good watchmaker is sometimes a challenge. We felt it was important to make a concrete effort to ensure that this profession continues to exist and is enriched.”

Aurel Bacs added: “Phillips, in association with Bacs & Russo, is delighted and honoured to organise this auction on a voluntary basis for the second year in a row. This joint initiative illustrates the dedication of the watch community to the art of watchmaking.

He continued: “We look forward to joining the generosity of the participating brands and Geneva Watch Days partners in supporting the Geneva Watchmaking School. Aspiring watchmakers can thus embark on their first journey to excellence.”

The ambition this year is to surpass the total of CHF 110,000 raised at the previous auction in 2023.
