The fastest watch on Earth is going to auction – and it’s for a very good cause

20 watches are going under the hammer at the Buying Time Foundation watch auction, including the Casio worn during the world land speed record

A charity watch auction with a compelling lineup goes this morning, raising funds for Buying Time – a foundation dedicated to creating meaningful experiences and lasting memories for young people living with terminal illness and their families.

Every watch in the 20-piece lot has been donated by brands, collectors and industry supporters.

The headline lot is a Casio worn by Andy Green, pilot of the Thrust SSC, during the 1997 world land speed record run that broke the sound barrier.

The watch is presented exactly as it was stored immediately after the record, still carrying sand from Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. It is, as the auction billing puts it, ‘the fastest watch on Earth.’

Alongside it, the auction features a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with JCB Dieselmax Team provenance, an IWC Portugieser Year of the Dragon, a one-off Zenith Chronomaster Sport, a Tudor Black Bay Chrono in turquoise, and an Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to Venus.

Alongside these are a range of watches donated by independent British brands including Fears, Christopher Ward, Farer, Beaucroft, William Wood, Elliot Brown and Mr Jones Watches.

The auction is live now, and you can find out more by visiting buyingtimefoundation.com.
