Leon Löwentraut becomes the latest artist in residence at Bucherer TimeMachine

The exhibition came together because of Mr Löwentraut’s shared interest with Bucherer in aesthetics, fine art, craftsmanship and a love for timepieces.

Bucherer always promised that its flagship TimeMachine showroom in New York would be much more than just a watch and jewelry shop, it would be a cultural hub where artists, musicians and other inspiring creatives could gather.

That mission came together this week with an exhibition by young German artist sensation Leon Löwentraut, hot from a spell at Art Miami, another meeting point for horology and art.

Seven selected artworks have been installed at Bucherer Time Machine.

The centerpiece of the exhibition, “Liberty”, was created exclusively for Bucherer as a celebration of its first anniversary since reopening.

“Since the reopening of TimeMachine, we have had the pleasure of curating several exhibitions across multiple mediums from sculpture to NFT and time periods, including works from Damien Hirst, Picasso, Renoir, Man Ray, Adam Parker Smith,” says Bucherer US CMO, Carina Ertl.

“We are thrilled to partner with Leon Löwentraut on an exclusive first solo exhibition including a special piece, Liberty, that honors Bucherer’s flagship in New York City. Leon’s work is exceptional and captures the innovative and joyous spirit of the TimeMachine in an exciting new way. Leon is redefining the way we experience art for the next generation of up- and-coming artists. We are pleased to introduce our customers to Leon’s work this winter,” she adds.

The exhibition came together because of Mr Löwentraut’s shared interest with Bucherer in aesthetics, fine art, craftsmanship and a love for timepieces.

“I am a watch enthusiast and have been an avid collector for many years. This passion for watches led me to become a loyal friend of Bucherer Düsseldorf. The dedicated team there introduced me further into the world of fine watchmaking and I came to realize that watchmaking is true art. You may compare this to the creation of one of my paintings. Every stroke must blend and connect to the other. Same with the movement of a watch. What I like about Bucherer is that they carry so much tradition yet are innovative and never shy away from trying new things,” he reveals.

Mr Löwentraut’s colorful, energetic yet polarizing works have caught the attention of the art world.

His works have been exhibited in renowned galleries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the US.
