Omega achieves 6,000m depth rating for Ultra Deep range of Seamaster watches

Omega unveiled its new watches to press and retail partners in Miami this week where Arnaud Michon, CEO & president of Omega and Swatch Group USA is doing the honors.

Star of the show is a new collection of Seamasters capable of surviving at depths of up to 6,000 meters or close to four miles below sea level.

The watches have been under development as a core collection since Omega earned a world record for the deepest dive survived by a wristwatch in 2019.

That record was set with a specially developed Seamaster Planet Ocean Ultra Deep Professional, which made it to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, 10,928 meters below the surface of The Atlantic, attached to robotic arms of submarines.

Only three of the watches were made, but lessons from those prototypes have informed the creation of a more mainstream collection of seven Ultra Deep 6,000 references launching today.

The hero piece is made from titanium with a specially created domed crystal glass capable of withstanding 7.5 tonnes of pressure.

Remarkably, the watch comes in a 45.5mm case that is just 18mm thick.

The other six come in a new high performance stainless steel alloy named O-Megasteel, which is up to 50% harder than normal steel, as well as being whiter and shinier when polished.

There is a range of colorways including the classic blue to black gradient lacquer dial with 18ct white gold indexes and hands filled with white blue light Super-LumiNova, framed with a steel and ceramic diver’s bezel.

There are also white or grey-to-black gradient-effect dials.

Every Ultra Deep has a grade 5 titanium caseback with the same laser-engraved Sonar emblem and wording as the full titanium model.

They can be worn on either a rubber strap or a steel bracelet.
