Sotheby’s Hong Kong Important Watches Autumn Sale, which takes place online and at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on October 2, features two rare and important chronograph wristwatches: a platinum Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Zenith Caliber chronograph (Ref 16516) with mother-of-pearl dial, and a Patek Philippe pink gold perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch with moon phases (Ref 2499).
The Patek Philippe reference 2499 in pink gold and retailed by Tiffany & Co. is potentially the only one of its kind, manufactured in 1971 and sold in 1972. It first surfaced on the auction market in 2005 where it was consigned by the original owner, selling for over US$750,000, and has been in private hands ever since. There are only six known examples of the third series dressed in pink gold.
Manufactured by Rolex in 1999, the present reference 16516 is the only known platinum Cosmograph Daytona powered by Zenith caliber. It was discovered for the first time only recently and is fresh to the market as it was previously unknown. The watch is complete with its certificates and accessories.
