IWC Adds New Light Blue Ceramic to Its Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Collection
Perhaps inspired by the uncanny similarities between the F1 movie and Top Gun storylines, IWC Schaffhausen has circled back to the franchise with a new colorway of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Miramar.
Featuring a light blue ceramic case especially developed in collaboration with Pantone, this limited-edition timepiece captures the spirit of naval aviation and elite pilot training, as well as the fresh palette of the summer season.
The all-new ceramic color is inspired by the light blue T-shirts worn by Top Gun instructors under their flight suits, and is paired with a matching blue dial and a durable rubber strap in the same tone – the color-matching of which is no mean feat.
Only 1,000 pieces of this striking ceramic model will be produced – that might sound limited, but that’s in fact 28.5 times as many instructors on the legendary US Navy Strike Fighter Tactics program at any given time.
IWC is also launching a stainless steel version of the Chronograph 41 (Ref. IW388117), which features the same Top Gun Miramar blue dial and strap. This model marks the first time the Swiss brand has introduced a Pantone color in a steel watch.
Both models are powered by IWC’s in-house 69000 caliber chronograph movement, offering a 46-hour power reserve and a robust column-wheel design.
The ceramic version comes with a titanium case back engraved with the Top Gun logo, while the steel version features an exhibition case back to showcase the movement.
