Ulysse Nardin has launched a limited edition diving watch with a dial made from a multi-coloured gemstone celebrated for its healing qualities.
The Diver Atoll has a dial made of chrysocolla, and because of the gemstone’s patterning, each hand-cut dial is unique.
Chrysocolla is a blue-green copper ore that has long been used for jewellery and is also believed to have various therapeutic properties.
Ulysse Nardin tells us that the stone “conjures visions of tranquil lagoons, vibrant coral reefs and limitless ocean horizons”.
The new model joins previous examples with mother-of-pearl and aventurine dials.
The uni-directional rotating bezel is set with 40 diamonds, with further diamonds on the hour indexes, for a total of 0.92 carats.
The 39mm stainless-steel case has polished and satin-brushed finishes and is water resistant to 300m.
The modern iteration of Ulysse Nardin is best known for the avant-garde Freak that launched in 2001.
It may be proud to be different, but the brand is also keen to be seen as responsible.
In a reflection of Ulysse Nardin’s “continuing commitment to sustainable practices that is manifested around the Diver collection”, 80% of the steel in the case is recycled.
The watch is powered by UN-816 automatic movement with silicon escapement.
The Ulysse Nardin Diver Atoll comes on either a white rubber strap or a white alligator strap and is a limited edition of 100 pieces.
It is on sale now for $15,800.
