Transparent beauty: Ulysse Nardin’s new Royal Sapphires

Sapphire cased watch released in blue and ruby versions

Ulysse Nardin has unveiled a new transparent Royal Sapphire watch.

The Royal Sapphire has a sapphire case and a flying tourbillon movement.

There is one version in blue, and another in ruby.

The colours are made with bridges made from a gemstone called spinel, in either a pink or a blue shade.

This see-through design makes the tourbillon appear to float above the movement.

The Royal Sapphire has no dial and the whole movement is visible with the transparent spinel bridges.

On the lower part of the sapphire main plate, the Ulysse Nardin logo can be seen both from the front and rear of the watch.

The fixed flange holds together the three gears linked to the winding system via the crown.

It has a novel winding system, whereby the crown turns a wheel around the inside of the case, which in turn winds the mainspring.

The sapphire case has a diameter of 44mm and a height of a fraction under 12mm.

It is powered by Ulysse Nardin’s Caliber UN-79 manual-wind tourbillon movement, with 96 hours of power reserve.

It comes on a blue alligator leather strap with a titanium deployant buckle.

The price for each piece is $328,300 and they are available at ulysse-nardin.com
