“Auto racing began five minutes after the second car was built” is one of many quotes attributed to Henry Ford.
Whether he actually said it or not, the point stands, that the birth of racing started pretty much as soon as there was anything to race with.
One of the first proper races was the Gordon Bennett Cup, that took place on public roads from 1900.
One of those early races was in Ireland, then part of Britain, and this was the first known use of a colour that became known as British Racing Green.
The color has been used for countless Bugattis, Aston Martins and Lotuses over the years, and now we can add to that the latest version of TAG Heuer’s Monaco Chronograph.
It follows last year’s example in Racing Blue, in honour of the racing color associated with the French.
