Casio has announced another watch collaboration with the pro surfer Kanoa Igarashi.
Igarashi was born in America to Japanese parents who moved to California with the hope of making their then-unborn child a surfing champion.
Hitting the waves early paid off, and Igarashi joined the US surfing team at the age of nine.
At the age of 14 he won the US Under-18 surfing championship, the youngest person to do so.
As an adult he won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, representing Japan, and then won gold at the 2022 World Surfing Games.
The GLX5600KA-1 is Igarashi’s third collaboration model with G-Shock, having made watches with them in both 2019 and 2021.
The new watch is based on the G-LIDE GLX5600 series from G-Shock’s surf collection.
It has helpful features for surfers, like a tide graph and moon data, along with high/low tide times, tide levels, and moonphase information.
It also has a protective wire frame on the watch face to keep the glass safe in the toughest of conditions.
At Igarashi’s request, the bezel and band incorporate mixed color molding in varying shades of jet-black, reflecting the “movement of waves in a sleek, monochromatic design”.
It also has Igarashi’s signature engraved on the case back along with his surfing number, 50, on the strap.
The Casio G-Shock GLX5600KA-1 costs $150.
