Street style: G-Shock partners with Tokyo brand BlackEyePatch

Old school G-Shock is good fit for the street fashion label

The collaboration between G-Shock and Tokyo fashion label BlackEyePatch makes sense for a number of reasons.

They are both Japanese, but it goes beyond that.

The G-Shock was conceived as a piece of no-nonsense hardware, a watch that could be dropped, submerged or left in a drawer and just keep going.

It did all those things, but along the way it developed into something else, an object of desire that was ripe for a thousand different looks.

BlackEyePatch is a street brand that has taken workwear, given it graffiti-style touches and made it into fashionwear.

The brand’s latest Casio collab is based on a DW5610, heir to the iconic shape of the very first G-Shock.

It is navy and beige with touches of orange, and the caseback is etched “BlackEyePatch” along with the brand’s “Genuine Article” tag, written in Chinese characters.

To add to the Japanese flavour, that kanji tag is backlit on the display when you press the light button.

BlackEyePatch started making clothes and accessories in 2013.

Last year the brand opened a flagship store in Harajuku, the colorful fashion and shopping heart of Tokyo.

The Casio G-Shock Digital BlackEyePatch Model DW5610BEP-2 costs $130, and is available at www.casio.com
