Straton Watch Company channels classic car styling into range of sub-$500 Day/Date automatics

Sporty chequered flag bezel brings racy aesthetic to latest sport watch.

Straton Watch Company was founded in 2015 by Kyle Schut, a classic car-loving race driver with the sort of passion for chronographs that only true gear heads seem to feel.

The Swiss-based microbrand burst into life with a Kickstarter campaign that was over ten-times subscribed, and has been running its sports watch business from the banks of Lake Zürich ever since.

Its latest collection, the Syncro Sport Day/Date Automatic, is a rare departure from the brand’s chronograph collections.

The watches use the same Seiko NH36 movement as the Seiko 5 Sports family, which powers central hours, minutes and seconds hands plus day and date at 3 o’clock.

Mr Schut could not resist introducing a sporty 1970s racing aesthetic, most visibly seen in the chequered flag styling of the watches’ 60-minute bezel.

There are four colours in the collection: white, black, blue and orange, but their party trick is seen after dark when their dials, hands and bezel change colour thanks to different choices of SuperLuminova.

The 40mm watches stand a comfortable 13mm tall and are worn on leather straps with contrasting trim.
