Panerai puts its own gold into Quaranta collection

Luminor Quaranta BiTempo Goldtech brings new look to the 40mm model

Panerai has expanded its modestly sized Luminor Quaranta collection with the introduction of a version in the brand’s proprietary Goldtech.

Quaranta, meaning ‘forty’ in Italian, denotes the line of watches – introduced across both the Luminor and Radiomir ranges – with a 40mm case size.

For a brand known for big statement pieces, the introduction of smaller pieces has gone hand-in-hand with Panerai’s move from niche watch to luxury mainstay.

Goldtech was developed by Panerai, a gold alloy made with a combination of platinum and copper to give a distinctive red hue.

Goldtech has already been used in a number of models across the Panerai range, including in a Radiomir Quaranta, but this is the first time in a Luminor Quaranta.

The Luminor line, for anyone unfamiliar, is distinguished by the cushion-shaped case and the signature crown protector.

The Luminor QuarantaTM BiTempo Goldtech is powered by the automatic P.900/ GMT with a 3-day power reserve from a single barrel.

The movement has a hacking function for precise time setting

BiTempo, or dual time, in the watch name refers to the blue-tipped GMT hand, giving a second time zone.

It comes on a black alligator leather strap and there is Panerai’s patented ‘Click Release’ system for easy switching with the supplied black rubber strap.

The movement is visible through a sapphire caseback and the watch is water-resistant to 100m.

Panerai is in spirit an Italian brand, founded in Florence in 1860, but is now part of Switzerland’s Richemont group, and watches are made in Neuchâtel, the Swiss watchmaking hub.
