When Oris chose Hölstein as the base for its business in 1904, it would have most certainly based its decision on the benefits of the Waldenburgerbahn, the efficient low cost rail network running through the Waldenburg Valley.
It linked the towns of Liestal in the north and Waldenburg in the south, and passed right by the Oris factory, providing a magnet for commuters.
This helped fuel initial growth at Oris and since its opening in 1880, the rail line has been upgraded several times and in April last year, closed before its reopening next month as a high-tech tramway.
It will reconnect the valley once again and give Oris employees a low-carbon means of getting to work.
Oris says it will also help it deliver the Oris Emissions Reduction Programme, formalised earlier this year in its first Oris Sustainability Report.
To mark the role this vital network continues to play in the Oris story, the brand has released the Waldenburgerbahn Limited Edition, a 1,000-piece edition based on the signature Big Crown Pointer Date.
Its finishing touch is a special case back engraving of the old Waldenburgerbahn locomotive.
Available in November, it will retail for 2,100 CHF.
