The window for watch launches used to be like European football’s transfer window. Almost nothing came to market if it had not first appeared at Baselworld or SIHH.
Rolex is now in a minority of one that sticks to this calendar, with an entire year’s updates dropping on day one of Watches and Wonders.
The pandemic accelerated a trend away from this restricted calendar towards the market we see today where Instagram fires something new at us on an almost hourly basis.
More seasonality has worked its way from the fashion world into watches, and we now see more novelties being unveiled at a time of year that suits their aesthetic: bright pastels in the spring and more rustic, earthy colours in the autumn.
Picking up the narrative, Laco has chosen today to reveal two new Polar 39 watches, a name that lends itself to a mid-February debut.
The ice-white automatics are trimmed down versions of the current 42mm collection of Laco pilot timekeepers.
In common with the 42mm models, there are two dial designs on offer in the new brushed steel line.
The Augsburg Polar 39 has a wide open dial with printed hour markers filled with the same lume as the hours and minutes hands.
The Aachen POLAR 39 dial has an outer track with oversized minute markers and an inner track showing the hours.
Both use an automatic Laco 2S movement, based on the Miyota 82S0, which is visible from the underside thanks to an exhibition case back.
Customers can also order either watch with an upgraded movement to the Laco 31, which has a 60 hour power reserve.
Both watches are sold on a brown leather strap for €440.
