The watchmaking village of Glashütte has a new dial manufactory within the Swatch Group-owned Glashütte Original atelier.
The dial workshop officially opened in June and is capable of delivering a “high quality and flawless” finish to every piece.
The entire production process has been brought in-house starting with milling and drilling of blanks made from gold, silver, bronze or brass.
Details like a snailed sub dial or sandblasted surface are indelibly created during this process.
Dials are then moved to a clean room where they are given treatments like galvanizing or the painstaking process of lacquering.
After passing quality control, the dials are given their printed or hand-applied elements like hour markers, which have themselves been finished to a mirror polish before being filled with lume or set with gems.
A typical dial can go through up to 75 work steps, Glashütte Original says, adding: “The combination of traditional techniques and selected materials gives each dial its unique depth, structure and charisma”.
