Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin collaborate on color-shifting Laureato Chronograph

GP has priced the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition at £19,300.

Girard-Perregaux is building on its partnership with Aston Martin with a new green-dialed Laureato Chronograph in lightweight titanium.

Ambitiously, the watch’s aim is to stir the same emotions you get if you put your foot down in a modern Aston Martin DB12.

“The new Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition is optimally designed to thrill onlookers. Each facet of the vibrantly hued dial and lightweight multifaceted titanium bodywork engages with light, evincing a variety of shades,” word salad from the company suggests.

Carmakers love to explain about how much skill, time and technology is involved in painting one of their vehicles, and GP is joining the choir after adopting an even more complex 14-step process to make the new Laureato’s dial match the finish of an iridescent green automotive paint.

“The eye-catching hue is achieved by applying 15 ultrathin layers of paint to the dial surface and subjecting it to two cooking cycles to achieve the desired look. The tolerances involved in creating the paint for a watch are much smaller than those employed in the automotive sector and involve a protracted filtration method to eradicate any residual grains that could potentially mar the overall aesthetic,” GP describes.

GP’s choice of finish and colour for the dial is a departure from both the clous de Paris style of core collection Laureato watches and also the classic British racing green associated with Aston Martin.

The result is a finely-textured dial dial that can appear green, orange or anything in between depending on light conditions and different angles.

Girard-Perregaux has made Laureato watches in a variety of materials: steel, carbon, ceramic, precious metals and titanium.

Returning to titanium with a combination of brushed and polished facets, the 42mm watch is powered the GP03300-2451 automatic chronograph movements, which has a 46 hour power reserve.

GP has priced the Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition at $22,700. It is on sale from today.
