Duckworth Prestex is hoping to repeat the success of a highly limited collection of Verimatic automatics for April’s British Watchmakers’ Day with a short run of the colorful line sporting California dials for next month’s Windup Watch Fair in San Francisco.
For the British event, the business made ten unique watches, each in a different color, with No.1 on every dial and the letters of BRITISH WATCH & CLOCKMAKERS — 24 letters in total — replacing numerals for the hours.
For the American evolution of the idea, Duckworth Prestex is making 100 watches in ten colors, 20 of each, and switching the Verimatic’s usual Arabic hour numerals with the California dial layout of Roman numerals for I, II, X and XI, and Arabic numerals at 4, 5, 7 and 8.
The watches also have California24 on the dial as a stamp for the year and location of the launch.
They go on sale at the San Francisco Wind Up Watch Fair, which runs from May 1 to 3 priced at $790 at the event, but will also be sold at the Duckworth Prestex online store.
Neil Duckworth, managing director of Duckworth Prestex says he will be taking pre-orders from May 1 for delivery of the watches scheduled for July.
