Citizen has released two new Satellite Wave X models with starry dials that reflect their space-assisted timekeeping.
The first Satellite Wave, the F100, came out in 2014.
It stood out as a watch that not only received time signals from satellites, but also tried to emulate the look of them.
The triangular corners on the case were inspired, Citizen says, by the solar panels on certain types of orbiting satellites.
The Eco-Drive movement receives signals from space in as little as three seconds.
Without signal reception, the Eco-Drive movement keeps accuracy of +/- 5 seconds a month.
The new Satellite Wave X carries the same basic design, but with a finessed look and more user-friendly controls.
The X in the name celebrates 10 years since the launch of the first model.
The starry dial has little three-dimensional steps that go clockwise around the dial, starting at 12 o’clock.
Another nice little touch – even if not exactly space-related – are the indices. If you look closely, they have been metal-spun to look like the little grooves on a vinyl record.
The band and 45.4mm case are made from Citizen’s proprietary titanium alloys – claimed to be at least five times harder than stainless steel, along with being scratch resistant and lightweight.
The Citizen Satellite Wave X is available with a blue or black dial.
