American Express has managed to give its highest-level service almost mythical status.
Who among us, with a run-of-the-mill gold card isn’t dreaming of platinum or even a ‘black’ AmEx, rumored to arrive with unlimited spending power.
The black card is a bit of an urban myth, but platinum cardholders do have a secret society to join: American Express Centurion, whose owners are reportedly paying $5,000 per year for what amounts to an exclusive members’ club with perks aplenty.
A brand new perk to add to concierge services and private jet terminal access comes courtesy of Watches of Switzerland, which has curated a selection of 200 watches exclusively for Centurion members, with rare waiting list pieces from the likes of Patek Philippe, Omega, Cartier, F.P. Journe, MB&F, and Jacob & Co.
Centurion members will also be able to access exclusive perks of the program, as they are developed, across Watches of Switzerland, Betteridge, Mayors and Analog Shift boutiques across the country.
“From limited editions and holy grails to museum-quality, vintage first editions, we have included new pieces from our independent brand partners MB&F and Jacob & Co., who tapped into their exceptional rarities to participate in this partnership. When we looked at building this collection for Centurion members, we wanted to deliver a one-of-a-kind discovery experience. Whether it’s a timepiece of horological history, like the first Omega Speedmaster reference, or a unique Patek Philippe Nautilus variation or watch from a brand that is rarely seen in person, like the Akrivia AK-06, a namesake the celebrated watchmaker Rexhep Rexhepi has since retired, we worked to ensure this curation would be an unmatched experience for Centurion’s card holders,” says David Hurley, deputy chief executive officer of Watches of Switzerland Group.
To launch the initiative, New Yorkers were shown the watches at an invitation-only event at Centurion’s lounge at One Vanderbilt.
“We know many of our Centurion members are passionate about watches and are looking for unique pieces to add to their collections. Watches of Switzerland is the leading authority on exceptional and collectible luxury watches, and much like Centurion, they are focused on bringing the highest level of service to their customers. We knew that they’d be the ideal partner to create a one-of-a-kind experience and Centurion Watch Program for our members,” says Bess Spaeth, senior vice president, U.S. premium products and membership rewards at American Express.
