Atelier Wen is raising money for UNESCO projects that preserve Chinese heritage by auctioning a unique watch that was made in Switzerland during this year’s Watches and Wonders Geneva exhibition.
The company flew in Cheng Yucai, described as Asia’s only guilloché master craftsman, for the show, where he created three special dials over five days using a traditional rose engine, each with different patterns, during the event.
All three were given case backs labelled playfully as “Crafted in China Geneva”.
One of the watches is being auctioned online by Phillips with an estimate of CHF 2,500 to 5,000.
The auction went live today, and closes on September 12.
Bidding current stands at CHF 4,200.
Atelier Wen employed Geneva-based watchmaker Fabiano Pericles to assemble the dials made by Master Chen into complete stainless steel watches, creating the opportunity to label them as made in Geneva.
