Bremont co-founder takes on new role outside of watch industry

New executive assignment for Bremont Watches co-founder - but he will still retain board role at UK-based firm

Nick English has been appointed to the car company Moke International.

English was the co-founder of Bremont Watches back in 2002 with his brother Giles.

The Mini Moke first appeared in the 1960s, a simple convertible using similar mechanicals to the Mini car.

The car gained cult status in beach resorts across the world.

Moke International has moved the seaside car into the modern era with the introduction of electric powerplants.

English becomes the new executive chairman, effective immediately.

“I am thrilled to be joining Moke International at such a pivotal time,” he said.

“The Moke brand holds a special place in automotive history, and I look forward to working with the talented team to build on its legacy, continue to grow the manufacturing of the cars in the UK, and explore new opportunities for innovation and expansion.”

As part of the move, Isobel Dando will be stepping away from her role as CEO, which she has held for the past four years.

“Hiring Nick is a real coup for Moke,” Dando said. “I am delighted to be handing over the reins to him to further build on everything the team have achieved to date. He is passionate about British engineering – be it flying planes, making watches or driving cars – and, as a serial entrepreneur, I believe he has exactly what we need to further develop the business.”

English remains a board director of Bremont, where he grew a business that has become a symbol for the resurgence of a once-great British watch industry.

Davide Cerrato, CEO of Bremont, said that while the English brothers are no longer operational, they are key advisers who are 100% on board with all of the changes at the Henley-based watch company.
