Hamilton, the brand that is associated with almost as many movie stars as Hollywood Boulevard, has unleashed a burst of new colours for its dive watches in time for summer.
There are three new versions of the Khaki Navy Scuba, with its 40mm stainless-steel case and 100m water-resistance.
Like all Khaki Navy Scubas, they have Hamilton’s H-10 automatic movement with date, Nivachron balance spring and 80-hour power reserve.
There are three new tropically bold colors – orange; yellow; and a reddish pink – with the rubber strap matched to the minute track.
The Khaki Navy Scuba comes with a two-year warranty and costs $845.
The other release takes the diving game a bit deeper, with a new interpretation of the no-nonsense Khaki Navy Belowzero.
This very grown-up diving watch has a 46mm titanium case and water-resistance of an uber-hefty 1000m.
That may be serious depth, but the new watch is decked out in a jolly yellow rubber strap with matching hands.
Not that this color is there just for fun.
The Belowzero – or BeLOWZERO, as Hamilton insists on writing it – is a bit of a film star itself, worn by Matt Damon in The Martian, to name but one starring role.
Until now the watch has been stealthy black-on-black, so this is the first time we’ve seen it with a splash of color.
The yellow is not just to look pretty, but because it is more visible in low-light conditions.
Hamilton offers us the new watch with a short science lesson: when sunlight hits the water, it refracts into the different colors in the spectrum. Yellow, combined with high-contrast markers, is the most visible in coastal water.
Translation: on land it looks good, under water it is highly visible.
The Belowzero shares the H10 automatic movement with its weekend-spanning power reserve.
The impressive 1000m water-resistance is backed up by a helium escape valve to protect the movement when pressure gets too much.
The Belowzero also has a two-year guarantee and costs $1,745.
