Hamilton’s helicopter heroes

New version of Khaki Aviation Pilot made with input from Air-Glaciers rescue team

Hamilton has produced a new version of the Khaki Aviation Pilot in collaboration with a Swiss air rescue team.

The new Khaki Aviation Pilot Air-Glaciers has been made with direct input from a team of helicopter pilots.

The Air-Glaciers team was founded in 1965 and operates out of six bases in Switzerland, undertaking mountain rescue missions, as well as commercial flights.

The pilots spend long days on missions and the new watch was designed with a view to maximising functionality on the job.

The leather-lined Velcro strap is designed for maximum comfort and wearability combined with low weight. The special edition comes with an additional suede nubuck strap.

A titanium case, in turn, cuts the watch’s overall weight by 45 percent, according to Hamilton.

The Khaki Aviation Pilot Air-Glaciers features Hamilton’s H-30 automatic movement with 80-hour power reserve with Nivachron balance spring for better resistance to magnetic fields, temperature variation and shocks.

The titanium case is 42mm in diameter and provides 100m of water-resistance.

Hamilton, as well as being in more movies than most Hollywood stars, also has healthy history with aviation. In the latter half of the 20th century it provided tens of thousands of watches for Britain’s Royal Air Force, among many others.

“Timing is everything in our industry,” says Bernard Vogel, CEO of Air-Glaciers. “A few seconds can make all the difference in a rescue mission, or ensure the success of a transportation operation. Hamilton‘s expertise in precision is a true asset to our daily operations.”
