Citizen upgrades Promaster watches with hi-res memory-in-pixel hybrid display

MIP replacing LCD makes the watch easier to read and capable of displaying more information.

Citizen has installed a new light-powered Eco-Drive Caliber U833 movement in a refreshed collection of Promaster professional sports watches.

The Promaster line was first launched 35 years ago in 1989 with a target market of professionals working in challenging roles and extreme environments, be that on land, sea or in the air.

For 2024, the Promaster’s display has been upgraded from a mix of analog and LCD to a Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) display that is much higher resolution. This improves legibility and makes it possible to display more information.

MIP displays are also much easier to see outdoors.

There are a few upgrades to the functionality as well, including the ability to set multiple alarms and a light level indicator that shows how much power has been generated from the light over the past seven days.

The new watches are more environmentally friendly thanks to a switch from a rubber strap to one made from Benebiol, a biomass material.

The hybrid chronograph watch measures 43.9mm x 14mm and is scheduled to go on sale in the summer for $750 with a choice of either green or black dial.
