Glashütte Original champions elegant mechanical watches for independent women

German watchmaker refuses to ask women to compromise by launching a line of watches with in-house movements and high end finishing.

Glashütte Original is both inspired by and a champion for feminine diversity and chose last week’s International Women’s Day to unveil a new collection of Serenade Luna watches designed for cosmopolitan, confident women.

“With the finest materials and an automatic movement designed and built in-house, it is the perfect lifetime companion,” the watchmaker describes.

Serenade Luna watches are made with the character of a fine piece of jewelry and the horological authenticity that comes with a manufacture mechanical movement.

The 32.5mm range can be glamourous as well as subtle with slim dimensions, precious materials and eye-catching details across four different references including options with diamond-studded bezels and mother of pearl dials.

There are two models in steel with mother of pearl dials, one with diamonds, the other without.

Simplest is a steel piece in steel with a sunray blue dial and the most opulent is a piece in red gold with a golden green dial decorated with diamonds on its bezel and hour markers.

All models come with an alligator leather strap color-matched to the dial that can be swapped out for a bracelet without tools.

Under the hood is a Calibre 35-14 automatic movement powering central hours, minutes and seconds, plus a moon phase complication at 6 o’clock on the dial.

The movement has a magnetic-resistant silicon balance spring and 60 hours of power reserve.

Prices range from $10,900 for $22,700.
