It is almost a decade since CODE41 was created in 2016 with a mission to create high end mechanical watches through collaborations with a network of manufacturers, and total transparency over the provenance of every component.
This year the collective, headed by Claudio D’Amore, is introducing its first moonphase watch.
The CODE41 Moon Inception is built around a modified C41-MP movement, which has a unique complication where the moon appears in its correct phase within an astrologically accurate night sky.
It sits within a dial that has been given a texture like the moon’s surface and is balanced by a second subdial for the date.
“The dial brilliantly plays with shapes, colours and textures: the grained background recalls the lunar surface while the intertwined rings evoke its craters. The moon and date circles form an 8, the symbol of infinity, authenticity and the power of engagement. The convex sapphire crystal adds a retro-classical touch that brings the whole thing together,” the company describes.
Pre-orders for the $3,345 Moon Inception opened for the watch on January 25, the date of the first new moon of 2024, and will be taken until February 23, when the moon is full again.
Deliveries are expected from September.
The watch comes in a 41.5mm steel case that stands 11.2mm tall.
Its C41-MP is based on a Sellita SW288 with 41 hour power reserve.
The movement has additional finishing and a customised rotor. Its case is water resistant to 100 metres.
In line with its policy of transparency, CODE41 has listed the source of the watch’s key components.
