Ollech & Wajs brings back its US Airforce B52 bomber watch

A 1966 watch made for aviators in the B52 era has been remade as a modern day automatic.

Few who saw it will forget the silhouette of the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber used by the US Airforce from the middle of last century.

Three generations of US military aviators have flown 750 planes that were built between 1952 and 1962, 70 of which remain in service today, making them the longest-serving combat aircraft in history.

In the mid-1960s Watchmaker Ollech & Wajs was so inspired by the awe and majesty of the aircraft  that it created a special watch, the B-905 ‘US Airforce’, featuring its shape on the dial.

The original B-905 US Airforce as advertised in 1966.

That watch has been reissued this year — 70 years after the 1954 maiden flight of the first production B-52 — with the same monochrome depiction of the bomber on its dial.

It comes a 39mm M-type case with a black PVD-coated chamfered-edge bezel that is designed to look like the nose cone profile of the B-52.

The new M-528 AF is inspired, but not a slave to the design of the 1966 original.

It is powered by a Swiss made Soprod calibre P024 and water resistant to 300 meters.

Only 56 are being made, each individually numbered. They can be bought on a black nylon strap or steel mesh bracelet for CHF 1,256.

Reservations can be placed from January 12th at 18:00 EST.
