Zeitwinkel reveals its most complex and zingy dials in the MAKS 188° collection.

39mm watches use Zeitwinkel’s W logo in a tapestry of lacquer that radiates outwards from a small seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock, a design that took over two years to perfect.

Swiss indie Zeitwinkel is fast establishing a reputation for using its exclusive self-winding manufacture movements in some seriously good-looking timepieces.

The boutique brand, founded in 2006, assembles and finishes all of its movements and watches by hand and its latest collection, named MAKS 188°, is its boldest ever move into eye catching and collectible styles with dials and straps in “Bleu Glacier”, “Vert de Limón”, “Rouge Lobélie” and “Orange d’Édouard”; or blue, mauve, red and orange.

The 39mm watches use Zeitwinkel’s W logo in a tapestry of lacquer that radiates outwards from a small seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock, a design that took over two years to perfect.

“After numerous attempts we finally succeeded in engraving our logo as small as we had originally imagined using state-of-the-art laser technology,” explains Zeitwinkel co-founder Peter Nikolaus.

Fellow co-founder Ivica “Maks” Maksimovic, describes the painstaking process of creating the dials. “After engraving, each dial receives almost twenty layers of lacquer applied by hand, through which we achieve a fascinating brilliance of color. In combination with the three-dimensional structure, this constantly creates new plays of light in the dial,” he explains.

“They combine three-dimensionality with a previously unheard-of attention to detail as well as bold colors, thus further developing the Zeitwinkel design language in a new direction,” he adds.

The collection is powered by Zeitwinkel’s ZW0102 automatic caliber, which is on display through an exhibition case back.

Holding 72 hours of power reserve, the hand-made movement has finely-decorated plates and bridges made of untreated German silver.

The watches are made to order and priced at CHF 14,500, including tax.
