Hodinkee’s chief commercial officer moves to family-owned independent in California

What could possibly have inspired Russell Kelly to leave his position leading Hodinkee’s ecommerce operation in New York to take up a role as chief operations officer for Fourtané Jewelers in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California?

The year-round blue skies and Pacific breeze kissing Fourtané’s boutique have to been a contributary factor, but Mr Kelly is keen to stress that working for a family-owned independent was the major draw.

“I have always had tremendous respect and admiration for Fourtané and the impressive business that generations of the Bonifas family have built,” he says.

“I could not be more excited with this unique opportunity to work with a best-in-class retail destination, in one of America’s truly iconic communities, and utilize my passion and industry experience to help maintain the highest level of attention to our clients,” he adds.

Mr Kelly’s appointment comes ahead of a significant expansion of Fourtané’s Carmel-by-the-Sea boutique to make room for a stronger line up of women’s fine jewelry, slated for later this year.

“We are thrilled to have Russell join the Fourtané team at this crucial moment when our business is poised for significant growth,” says Josh Bonifas, the second generation owner of Fourtané.

“His unmatched expertise in brand experience, and his success in leading teams across digital and commercial operations, will prove to be invaluable for Fourtané as we continue to deliver the best service and experience, we can for our visitors.”

Mr Kelly’s career in luxury watches began with Vacheron Constantin and Blancpain in the United States before he moved to Tudor to spearhead the brand’s commercial growth.

He moved to Hodinkee four years ago as the media business was morphing into an ecommerce retailer for new and pre-owned watches.

Fourtané Jewelers was founded in Carmel in 1950. Its flagship in the picturesque town is home to watches from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier and Tudor.

Jewelry brands in the portfolio include Carolina Bucci, Roberto Coin, and Messika.

The business is also active in estate jewelry and pre-owned watches.

In addition to the Carmel boutique, Fourtané opened a Rolex monobrand store in San Diego in 2018.
