Mondaine departs from classic circular Swiss railway clock shape

Radical Cushion Collection brings a more modern feel to the timeless SBB clock style.

Mondaine is not know for deviating far from the design of its watches based on the historic Swiss Railway station clocks.

So, it comes as a surprise to see a fresh collection, not in the classic circular style, but in cushion shaped cases.

There are two sizes of the new Cushion Collection, 41mm and a more feminine 31mm.

The changes do not stop at the case shape, the 41mm Grand Cushion versions step entirely away from the clock connection with the addition of chronograph and date functions.

There are still connections of the railway clocks in the form of the red lollipop seconds hand and the bold blocky hours and minutes hands.

They also still carry the Swiss SBB railway logo on the dials.

The Grand Cushion watches come in three dial colors: white, deep ocean blue, and forest green.

The classic white dial is paired with a black strap made from vegan grape leather. The deep ocean blue and forest green dials come with a textile strap made from recycled plastic bottles in matching blue and green.

Ladies Petit Cushion models are more recognizably in the Mondaine canon with the usual three-hand circular faces.

The polished stainless-steel case has a white dial and it is sold with a choice of straps in black or red vegan grape leather or a Milanese mesh stainless steel bracelet.

The Grand Cushion is on sale for $595 and the Petit Cushion is $375 or $395 on the bracelet.
