Jack Henne, the architect of Henne Jewelers’ success in Pittsburgh in the late 20th century, passed away on September 5 at the age of 92.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; children: John Henne, Anne Rockwell and Meg Gibson; and eight grandchildren: Hunter, Kathryn, Sydney, Jack, Sam, Luke, Mark and Clark.
Jack served on the U.S.S. Fulton, which serviced submarines during the Korean War.
After the war, he returned to Pittsburgh to work with his father, Gerry Henne, in the family jewelry business founded by Gerry’s father in 1887.
Jack took over the running of the family business in 1975.
During his tenure, Jack made Henne Jewelers a pillar in the East End of Pittsburgh.
Now under the leadership of its fourth generation, president John Henne is continuing to expand Henne Jewelers, with a plan to double the size of its Pittsburgh store.
Construction begins on the expansion next year.
John Henne is also continuing with the philanthropic work of Jack.
Henne Jewelers is an advocate for a number of non-profit organizations both in the industry and in the Pittsburgh community including the Light of Life Rescue Mission and the Pittsburgh Kids Foundation.
