Hodinkee hires five fresh faces for its editorial team

SVP of content Nick Marino says he is taking a new approach to the newsroom and employing a more varied roster of storytellers with deep knowledge and expertise to offer a wider range of content.

In the same week editor-in-chief Jack Forster went public on his defection to WatchBox, Hodinkee has unveiled five fresh faces in its editorial team.

The leading watch publication and retailer now has an editorial team of around 20 people.

Hiring five new editors marks a new growth phase and pushes Hodinkee further towards its goal to expand accessibility and inclusivity within the watch world by helping to scale and diversify its content, the company says.

Hodinkee says it has more readers in 2022 than ever before but does not share traffic data. Similarweb, which estimates web traffic says Hodinkee.com has around 4 million visitors per month.

Hodinkee’s SVP of content Nick Marino says he is taking a new approach to the newsroom and employing a more varied roster of storytellers with deep knowledge and expertise to offer a wider range of content, including more video, style coverage, and more.

Hodinkee’s new editors and writers

Anthony Traina, Editor
Known as the Chicago-based founder of Rescapement, a weekly newsletter “offering in-depth stories and unimportant opinions on important vintage and modern watches,” Anthony brings his comprehensive knowledge of the watch world and a deep passion for vintage to the Hodinkee team. Rescapement will retire, and now his work will only be available to read on Hodinkee.

Brandon Menancio, Editor
Brandon has been making videos for Hodinkee as a freelance contributor, and is now joining the team as the company’s on-screen talent across platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, Tiktok, and on Hodinkee.com. Based in Southern California, Brandon makes watches fun and approachable to everyone, with expansive knowledge of brands from G-Shock to Grand Seiko to Omega.

Malaika Crawford, Editor
Building on Hodinkee’s growing style vertical, Malaika joins the company as its first-ever Style Editor to dive deeper into the style beat. Formerly the Watch + Jewelry Editor at Highsnobiety, Malaika brings a deep understanding of fashion and culture, and years of experience as a stylist, to the team. She understands what’s happening in the streets, on the runway, at the office, and everywhere watches are worn.

Mark Kauzlarich, Editor
Mark knows historical and technical watchmaking inside and out. As a National Geographic Explorer, he has a yearning for adventure and a sensitivity for the human experience. After writing features for Hodinkee as a contributor to Hodinkee.com and its Vol. 10 Magazine, Mark joins as an Editor, bringing Hodinkee’s content deeper into the watch world through his signature journalism and photography.

Sarah Miller, Senior Writer
A contributor to The New York Times and The New Yorker and author of Hodinkee’s fan-favorite column “A Complete Newbie,” Sarah set out in 2021 to learn all about watches, chronicle her adventures, and see how long it would take to go from total novice to genuine enthusiast. Now, over a year later, she joins the team as a full-time Senior Writer.
