Brian, Brad and Olivia Walker suffered the tragedy of their father David Walker passing away unexpectedly in October 2021, leaving the siblings entirely responsible for running Shreve, Crump & Low.

“Dad was a remarkable business man and truly a fearless leader,” says Brian.

“Thankfully, we have had decades of hands-on management experience with our father and are well equipped to handle the challenges ahead with the business.”

David acquired the Boston-based Shreve, Crump & Low in 2006, but it was not his first rodeo, having started in the jewelry sector back in 1978.

His new business came with a pedigree. Founded in 1796, it claims to be the oldest jeweler in the United States.

Bit by bit, Shreve, Crump & Low grew into better premises in Boston, and then opened in Greenwich, Connecticut, home to the mighty Betteridge and Manfredi flagships.

With competitors like those, the family had to prove to the well-heeled local community that they belonged and could excel with customer service and prestige products.

“I am stalwart in my belief the strongest partners to watch brands in the US remain family-owned independent retail establishments with deep roots in their respective local communities,” Brian insists.

It is inspiring, considering his recent personal loss, to hear Brian speak positively about the future and the family’s mission to keep improving their service to both clients and suppliers.

One of the Walker family’s mantras has been adopted from Vacheron Constantin, Brian reveals, which says: “Do better if possible, and that is always possible.”
