Two world auction records were broken at An Evening of Exceptional Watches, which took place at Christie’s in New York yesterday.
The auction brought in a total of $5,861,125 with the top lot, a Patek Philippe reference 3448 (pictured above) in white gold with bracelet, selling for $1,155,000.
This sale established the world auction record for the regular production of this reference at auction.
The other record breaking item at the event was a Vacheron Constantin reference 4261 in 18k gold, which sold for $356,250, setting the world auction record for a ref. 4261 in gold.
Other highlights included a very rare Rolex Daytona with “Paul Newman” dial, retailed by Linz Brothers, Dallas, 1968 that realized $312,500; and a Patek Philippe reference 1463 stainless steel chronograph wristwatch with bracelet, retailed by Gübelin, that realized $423,000.
