H. Moser & Cie. once lampooned the emergence of the Apple Watch with a rounded rectangular Swiss Alp piece with a jet black dial that was just about smart enough to tell the time.
But perhaps the brand’s increasingly warm relationship with the tech bros (it just opened a boutique with Stephen Silver in Silicon Valley) is rubbing off because today it has unveiled a watch with a hidden digital display that activates for race countdowns, GMT with country selector, perpetual calendar, and a split-second chronograph.
With Bluetooth connectivity, it syncs on demand and offers up to 12 months of battery in time-only mode.
Pretty smart — and it is built into an analogue Funky Blue fumé dial that adds signature Moser flair.
The watch has been created as part of Moser’s partnership with Formula 1 racing team Alpine Motorsports, and is branded the Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition.
It launches alongside a Drivers Edition in the form of a skeletonized flyback chronograph powered by an AgenGraphe HMC 700 movement, seen here in an open-worked form for the first time.
The central chronograph display, bi-directional winding, and flyback function echo the pace of F1 racing, while blue PVD-treated stainless steel, a white rubber strap, and an exposed dial pay tribute to Alpine’s engineering DNA.
Limited to 200 pieces, it delivers a 72-hour power reserve, column wheel operation, and tachymeter scale – all in a 42.3 mm case water-resistant to 12 ATM.
Sold together in a set priced at $70,000, the Mechanics Edition is also available separately to select 2024 collectors.
