Breitling celebrates astronaut Scott Carpenter’s centenary with platinum Navitimer Cosmonaute

One of just 50 pieces, the watch pays tribute to the first Swiss wristwatch in space

To celebrate 100 years since the birth of American astronaut Scott Carpenter, Breitling has unveiled a 50-piece limited edition of the Navitimer B02 Chronograph 41 Cosmonaute Scott Carpenter Centenary – a platinum tribute to the first Swiss wristwatch in space.

On 24 May 1962, Carpenter orbited Earth aboard NASA’s Mercury-Atlas 7 mission, wearing a custom Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute with a 24-hour dial – crucial for spaceflight where traditional day-night cycles don’t apply. This centenary edition revives that pioneering spirit with technical precision and historic detail.

Housed in a 41mm platinum case, the watch is powered by the manually wound Breitling Manufacture Caliber B02.

This COSC-certified chronograph movement offers a 70-hour power reserve, 28,800 vph frequency, and column-wheel architecture with vertical clutch, while its 24-hour display mirrors the original space-flown design.

The deep blue dial evokes Earth’s appearance from orbit, with contrasting white subdials and slide rule bezel for flight calculations.

Super-LumiNova hands enhance legibility, while a red chronograph seconds hand and mushroom pushers offer smooth control.

Visible through a sapphire caseback, custom engravings honour Carpenter and the Mercury 7 mission, including “Aurora 7,” “3 orbits around the Earth,” and “First Swiss wristwatch in space.”

The watch is paired with a matching blue alligator strap and secured by an 18K white gold folding clasp.
