Louis Vuitton has installed the first automatic movement developed in house by its La Fabrique du Temps facility in a pair of Tambour Convergence watches that use two mostly-concealed disks to display hours and minutes at the top of a close-fronted case.
There are two 37mm models in the new line, one in pink gold, the other in diamond-encrusted platinum.
Both use a new in house LFT MA01.01 automatic movement with 18ct pink gold rotor and 45 hour power reserve.
Although the movement is being used first in a close-fronted watch, it is sure to be the base for more conventional time-only two-handers in the future.
It is beautifully finished at La Fabrique du Temps, meriting its presentation via an exhibition cases back.
The pink gold piece has a mirror finish to its case and dial, which provides contrast to the brushed brass hour and minute disks. It is worn on a beige calf leather strap.
The platinum piece is decorated with 795 diamonds and is worn on a blue leather strap.
