After somewhat of a festive hiatus, the rich and famous are putting in public appearances wearing some truly impressive timepieces.
Award season kicked off with last week’s 82nd Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles, and while we wait with baited breath to see what the next batch of nominees don at the postponed Critics Choice Awards later this month, we round up some of the best watch sightings in January so far.
Tom Holland
Recently engaged Tom Holland was interviewed for Ladbible last week, and it wasn’t the bombardment of puppies that stole the limelight but his wristcandy – a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 ‘Celebration Dial’. Priced at around $6,750, it features balloon-like bubbles in candy pink, yellow, coral red and green, and also comes in 36mm and 31mm sizes.
DJ Khaled
Music producer DJ Khaled took to social media this week, flashing his Rolex Cosmograph Daytona embellished with a sunny array of 36 orange baguette-cut sapphires around the bezel. Released in 2019 and costing around $80,000, it features a mother-of-pearl dial, eight diamond indexes, and a yellow gold case and bracelet.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Heads were turned at a recent Los Angeles Lakers game, with Hollywood legend Leonardo DiCaprio seated courtside wearing a Rolex Daytona. A bit of a holy-grail timepiece, the ref. 116509 ‘Racing’ is an early 2000s model that was one of the first to feature an in-house automatic Rolex movement, a completely white gold case and Oyster bracelet.
Vini Jr.
Brazilian footballer Vini Jr. was spotlighted on Jacob & Co.’s social media cradling an impressive array of trophies, and an even more noteworthy timepiece. The Opera Godfather watch is crafted in black titanium, and captures the namesake film with a miniature figurine of Don Vito Corleone and that iconic tune playing through a music box mechanism.
Taylor Swift
Pop superstar Taylor Swift was spotted wearing a Cartier Panthère de Cartier watch at a recent birthday dinner with friends. An understated classic in yellow gold, it is adorned with diamonds to the bezel and signature blued-steel sword-shaped hands, and costs $32,000.
Elton John
Lauded as one of the biggest watch flexes of the year so far, legendary singer songwriter Elton John appeared at the Golden Globes wearing a Rolex Daytona Cosmograph. Launched in 2024, it features a mother-of-pearl dial, while the white gold and diamond case houses the calibre 4131 self-winding movement.
Timothée Chalamet
Timothée Chalamet opted for a full Cartier look for his appearance at the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. A key trend, the actor stacked two 18K gold Tank Louis Cartier Mini watches, pairing them alongside a Panthère de Cartier transformable diamond necklace and a Love bracelet.
Lionel Messi
Argentine footballer Lionel Messi was seen back at Inter Miami CF’s training grounds wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which has a current market value of $575,000. Crafted in 18K Sand Gold alongside white and rose gold detailed, the limited-edition watch has an openworked dial that reveals the maison’s latest generation flying tourbillon movement.
