UK-based auctioneer Anderson & Garland has unearthed a rare Tudor Oysterdate Monte Carlo chronograph that will go under the hammer at its Fine Watches Auction on April 2.
Bidding is accepted online from the United States.
Thought to have been manufactured in 1971, the watch’s black ‘Home Plate’ dial — a reference to the shape of luminous hour markers that remind Americans of a baseball plates — has faded to a speckled brown tropical finish that is highly desirable among collectors.
Fred Wyrley-Birch, director and auctioneer at Anderson & Garland, suggests demand for vintage Tudor is robust. “It is increasingly apparent that collectors are becoming interested in Tudor not as the unloved sister of Rolex, but instead as a strong brand with its own heritage,” he says.
The Tudor Oysterdate Monte Carlo has a pre-sale estimate of £20,000 to £30,000.
