Roger Dubuis drops Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph in pink gold and black

Striking watch descends with the shock value of a futuristic black widow

Roger Dubuis has introduced a hornet-like color combination of pink gold and black to a Spider Flyback Chronograph that has exposed bridges making it look like there is an eight-legged arachnoid straddling the dial.

Always sporty, the new design brings an even more imposing design language to the racing chronograph family.

The watch is powered by Roger Dubuis’ RD780, which has its column wheel exposed at 6 o’clock on the dial supported by a vertical clutch and patent-pending Second Braking System.

Together they keep the movement of the central chronograph hand both smooth and snappy when it is started, stopped and returned to zero.

The 333-component movement is finished using 16 techniques and has a power reserve of 72 hours.

The usual sub dials of a more traditional chronograph have been more deeply integrated into the display.

For example, a Rotating Minute Counter (RMC) is crafted between two of the spider legs at 3 o’clock and displays zero to 30 minutes using separate pairs of 0-3 with 0-9.

The watch’s balance wheel pulses across the dial at 9 o’clock to keep it visually balanced.

Roger Dubuis remains resolutely committed to high impact wristwear, and has made the new Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph in an imposing 45mm 18ct pink gold case with claw-like lugs extending out to grip a black rubber strap with indentations that look a little like the contours of a spider’s back.

From beneath, an open case back exposes the automatic movement and its five-armed rotor designed to look like the rims of a supercar’s wheel.

A limited edition of 88 pieces, the watch is on sale now for $135,000+tax.
