Ressence offers full lume dial for its Type 5 dive watch

Tool watch or talking point? Ressence introduces a fully luminescent version of its Type 5 watch.

Ressence watches are designed to spark conversation. Their signature design is unmistakable to the initiated: smooth, pebble-like lines and the fluidity of oil-filled dials with their constantly moving time-telling wheels.

Those conversations are more likely to bubble up after dark following the introduction of a Type 5 watch with a fully luminous dial.

“Picture this,” Ressence purrs as it paints a picture of life with the new Type 5 L (L for luminescent).

“You’re at an experimental art show. The room is dimly lit, filled with chatter and the clinking of glasses. As you check the time on your wrist, your luminous Type 5 L catches the eye of your neighbour. First, a brief eye contact. Then, a smile. And, in no time, here you are answering all their questions, exchanging ideas, and contact details to keep the conversation going,” the Belgian watchmaker continues.

Type 5 watches are Ressence’s interpretation of a diver’s watch because they are easier to read under water and have a unidirectional bezel.

Dials immersed in oil eradicate internal reflection, which turns normal watches into illegible mirrors unless you look straight at them. With Ressence, dials are readable from any angle.

The Type 5 L goes further with its fully luminescent dial lighting up after dark or in deep water conditions.

“This new beamer and latest addition to our line of mechanical watches is as much a tool watch as a conversation starter, thanks to its superior legibility and unique design .” says Benoît Mintiens, founder of Ressence. “It’s not just about functionality; the robust TYPE 5 L brings a sense of quiet assurance and singularity to its wearer, making it a true companion for any endeavor.”

The Type 5 L comes in a 46mm x 15.5mm titanium case housing a Ressence Orbital Convex System autaomtic movement with 36 hour power reserve.

It is worn on a grey fabric strap with yellow leather lining or a blue rubber strap.

Launching this week, the watch is on sale for CHF 34,500.
