Popeye muscles onto dial of latest Bamford GMT watch

Bamford London’s GMT gets a new limited edition with time-telling arms.

Popeye has followed in the steps of Snoopy and become a cartoon star on the face of a Bamford watch.

The Bamford Steel ‘Popeye’ GMT features the famous spinach lover on the dial.

The Popeye GMT follows several different Snoopy versions of the GMT.

On the new watch, Popeye’s muscular forearms are used as hour and minute hands, while the watch has a regular seconds hand and GMT hand.

The watch is a collaboration with King Features, the US based cartoon distributor that first created Popeye the Sailor Man as a cartoon strip in 1929.

The watch is presented, appropriately, in a spinach can styled presentation tin.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Popeye, and to create this watch is something I’ve been desperate to do,” said founder George Bamford. “Now is the perfect time because we have been able to feature this new solar flare dial. It’s incredibly exciting.”

The Swiss-made watch is powered by a Sellita SW330-2 movement with 25 jewels and a 56-hour power reserve.

The GMT hand with internal rotating bezel allows users to view a separate time zone.

The 40mm steel case is water-resistant to 100m.

The Bamford London ‘Popeye’ Steel GMT is a limited edition of 100 pieces and is priced at £1700.
