Orient Star salutes the northern lights

Japanese brand brings out two new aurora-inspired limited editions

The northern lights have inspired many trips to Iceland, as well as adorning countless laptop screensavers.

The natural light display, also known or aurora borealis, is the source of inspiration for the latest releases from Japanese brand Orient Star.

The M34 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase Limited Edition and M34 F7 Semi Skeleton Limited Edition both feature a mother-of-pearl dial that depicts “the aurora’s ephemeral light in the dawn sky”.

They are both additions to the M34 collection, named after a cluster of stars in the Perseus constellation.

Each is powered by an in-house automatic movement with accuracy of +15/-5 seconds a day and a 50-hour power reserve.

The movements are chamfered and decorated with Geneva stripes, all visible through a sapphire crystal caseback.

The stainless-steel cases are 47.3mm in diameter and water-resistant to 100m.

The moonphase complication was introduced to Orient Star’s range in 2017.

That is the same year that Orient became part of Japan’s giant Seiko group, which helps them offer mechanical watches with in-house movements at very competitive prices.

The Orient Star M34 F7 Mechanical Moon Phase costs £1,369.99, while the M34 F7 Semi Skeleton Limited Edition costs £1,064.99.

Each watch is a limited edition of 200 pieces.
