Mr Jones picks Blue Monday to explore fine line between optimism and self sabotage

The 37mm quartz-based steel watch on a black leather strap is priced at $275.

Today is Blue Monday, the day we are told the population is at its most miserable as memories of the holidays fade, credit card bills land and another year at the coalface looms large.

British indie Mr Jones Watches has chosen this bleak day to introduce Feline Fine, its first watch of 2025, which “celebrates all the messy parts of life”.

Feline Fine tells its story of embracing life’s contradictions and challenges through a cat with a fag in its mouth on its dial circled by a petrol bomb and a lighter that do the job of hours and minutes hands.

What could go wrong?

Every day, two opposing messages are revealed: ‘Everything is fine’ and ‘Everything is fucked’ as a reminder that optimism and self sabotage co-exist in everybody.

The watch was designed by British illustrator Eleanor Dalzell and inspired by her book How To Self Sabotage, which will be given away with every watch.

She says the watch was born out of love for blending humour with existential honesty on the universal truth that everything is fine … until it’s not. “The watch is inspired by my book ‘How to Self Sabotage’, which I hope people will find playful, raw and relatable. Whether you’re feeling ‘fine’ or pretty ‘fucked’, the watch is here to remind you it’s okay to feel both,” she adds.

Mr Jones is teasing the watch today, but it will only be available to buy for 12 hours from 1pm EST on Wednesday January 22.
